Jocelyn Powers

Jocelyn developed a deep connection to patients and an appreciation for the importance of the personal touch in healthcare through time spent in her parents’ dental practices throughout her childhood – witnessing firsthand the impact of patient-centred care on individuals and families.

This led her to pursue a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences and later Doctorate in Neuroscience, researching the neural mechanisms underlying pain, including chronic conditions like fibromyalgia. Through this experience, the importance of patient voice in care was further cemented, as pain is one of the leading reasons for emergency department visits, yet it often remains untreated due to physician bias and a lack of breadth in therapeutic options.

In the last 4 years at Acumetis, Jocelyn has carved a niche for herself as the Medical Affairs team’s go-to-expert for Patient Advocacy. She has built meaningful relationships with patients and works to ensure their perspectives are heard and valued by industry partners. This work is driven by a genuine passion for honouring the knowledge, insights, and lived experiences that only patients can bring, and for ensuring those perspectives help shape and strengthen the work we do.
